Widnes release ticket offer as the play-off race hots up

Widnes chairman Stuart Murphy and head coach Allan Coleman have called on the town to showcase it’s support for the Vikings, following their recent red hot form

Widnes are now four games without a defeat, with three games to go until the end of the season. It has been a turbulent season on the player front with many mid season arrival and departures that have looked to hamper a top six finish. Injuries have also played a key role in a mid season dip in form.

Despite this Widnes have come storming back into the play-off race following another impressive display away from home against top six rivals Featherstone Rovers.

It was a performance full of determination and effort defending their goal line heroically. Ball in hand Dec Patton and Tom Gilmore pulled the strings creating multiple openings for the outside backs to capitalise.

Post match Widnes head coach Allan Coleman hailed the travelling support, he went onto say “the support the last three or four weeks has been outstanding, they really are our 18th man and we are desperate to fill that north stand this weekend.”

Widnes have two remaining home fixtures of the regular season, the first against Hunslet this Sunday and then London Broncos on the 14th September. Both fixtures present the perfect opportunity to post large attendance figures, showcasing to the rest of the British game why the people of Widnes deserve to be in Super League.

A town that lives and breathes Rugby League has already posted an attendance figure north of 7,000 against Warrington in a Challenge Cup fixture earlier on in the season and another two healthy attendances could be the difference in securing a play-off and Super League place.

A message to the town

Speaking ahead of this weekends clash against Hunslet, club Chairman Stuart Murphy said “We really need the fans to get behind the lads and Allan again as we push for the play-offs.”

“It is an exciting time, and whilst we are working on our Super League application bid, we can really use this as an opportunity to showcase the potential attendance that the Super League clubs and the RFL can expect to see down at the DCBL Stadium.”

“We really want to see the stands full and create an electric atmosphere for the lads.”

Meanwhile head coach Allan Coleman hailed the size of the club by saying “There is a real buzz around the place at the moment, we have players back and results have improved.”

“The fans believe along with the players and together we can show everyone we are the biggest club in this division, that starts on Sunday with hopefully our biggest crowd in the league this season.”

“A big crowd will certainly help our cause and will bring the best out of the lads.”

Ticket offer

To support the play-off and Super League push the club has announced that it will be allowing supporters to attend three games with one ticket at a discounted price, to encourage supporters to turn up in numbers.

Tickets will allow supporters to attend Sundays clash against Hunslet, whilst also allowing access to the Vikings all important final home fixture on September 14th against London Broncos.

Prior to the London fixture Widnes women host Halifax Panthers at the DCBL stadium for a 12 o’clock kick off in their charge for the league title. The discounted ticket will also allow access to a potential title deciding clash.

Speaking ahead of the crucial game captain Aimee Wood said “the girls have been on fire all season, we are currently 11 games unbeaten as we welcome Halifax.”

“It would be fantastic to see as many fans get down to the stadium and support us in what will hopefully be a memorable day.”
