Widnes head to Thatto Heath in the Cup, whilst new names enter the recruitment race
It has been a difficult start to the season for Widnes, losing heavily to Championship favourites London Broncos in round one.
The result was far from a surprise given the arrival of numerous high profile players in the capital, however one on one defensive efforts from Widnes players left cause for concern for the season ahead.
Individual defensive displays will be high on the agenda for Widnes to fix up ahead of this weeks cup tie as the Vikings look to book their place in the next round of the Challenge Cup.
Super League giants Leeds Rhinos await the winners in what promises to be a significant financial reward for the victorious team.
Recruitment Update
Prior to the London game it was expected Widnes was set to announce Jake Maizen’s replacement as the club missed out on securing former Warrington man Matt Dufty.
Post match Widnes head coach Allan Coleman revealed that the club had missed out on a second target that was planned to be announced in the week leading up to this weeks Challenge Cup match.
French talent Cesar Rouge this week secured a move to Toulouse. It is thought the versatile outside back could of been the target Widnes was trying to land.
Zac Santo is another name that is a possible target for Widnes. Originally from Australia, the Full-back now applies his trade in France for Limoux Grizzlies.
Santo earned his first French international cap last season qualifying through residency and is a former team mate of Widnes forward Morgan McWhirter.
The experienced Full-back has NRL experience for Canberra Raiders, but any move to Widnes would mean the 32 year old abandoning a title charge mid season.
Limoux sit second in the French Elite League, 2 points behind leaders Carcassonne.
