Banditt boosts Widnes as another player could be in contention to make an 1895 Cup Final appearance
Monday morning Widnes was delighted to announce the signing of towering Australian middle Max Banditt on a deal until the end of 2027 with an additional year option, which could see the Front-rower stay at Widnes until at least the end of 2028.
The addition of Banditt will add healthy competition to Allan Colemans forward pack as a challenging fixture pile up approaches Widnes at the business end of the season.
More about Banditt
The former Souths Logan Magpies player has scored 2 tries in 17 appearances so far in 2026. Max has featured on 13 occasions off the bench for his former club this season and holds a 96% tackle completion ratio.
The 23 year old has 38 Queensland Cup appearances for both Ipswich Jets and Souths Logan Magpies. He is also a fully qualified Physiotherapist who has experience of working at the Royal Brisbane Hospital.
The signing was made possible due to the link between new Widnes Vikings director Brad Fussell and Max Banditt’s player agent who has numerous clients playing in the Queensland Cup competition.
The deal is an example of the importance of having a director based in Australia networking with the Rugby League world in the southern hemisphere.
It is expected Widnes will continue to explore the Australian market for further recruits ahead of the 2027 season.
Richardson could yet feature in the 1895 Cup Final
In further news for Widnes supporters, Half-back Danny Richardson could be in line to make an unexpected appearance in the clubs 1895 Cup Final.
Richardson was ineligible to play a part in the final due to not being registered to Widnes prior to the Semi-final victory over Rochdale Hornets, however it is believed Widnes are working closely with the RFL to grant Richardson clearance to play.
London Broncos are in support of the decision and it is becoming increasingly likely the Widnes born Half-back will be able to play a role in the final alongside Max Banditt.
The 1895 Cup Final will take place at the Halliwell Jones stadium on Monday 31st August with a 3.00pm kick off scheduled. Tickets are now available to purchase via Rugby League Commercials central ticketing platform.
