Widnes welcome Leeds for the first time in the Challenge Cup since 2018
After cruising past St Helens amateur team Thatto Heath in the previous round, Widnes was awarded a home tie against Super League heavyweights Leeds Rhinos.
The two teams last met in the Challenge Cup back in 2018 in front of a 1,865 crowd, on the day Leeds progressed to the next round of the competition with a 23-20 victory over Widnes.
Over 4,000 people walked through the gates for the Vikings first home league game last week and 500 Leeds supporters are expected to make the trip to Cheshire, with that said the attendance should be much healthier compared to the last cup clash between the two teams.
Only Tom Gilmore, Ryan Ince and Jordan Johnstone participated in that game for Widnes out of the players listed in this weeks 21 man squad.
Sam Wilde also survives from the team that took to the field on that day, however he misses out on selection, having sustained an Ankle injury last week in the Vikings 28-14 league victory over North Wales Crusaders.
Wilde was one of four players who sustained injuries last week. Out the four players only Jumah Sambou makes this weeks 21 man squad.
Despite being listed, it is unlikely Sambou will be in action this weekend. The club are assessing the severity of his Shoulder injury. An update on his fitness is expected in the coming weeks.
