Lucas Green has started to proving himself to Widnes fans after a bizarre start to the season that saw him ironically booed by some of the Vikings faithful.

The Warrington youngster spent pre-season with Widnes, but to the options Allan Coleman had ahead of him in the squad, Green couldn’t find a way in to the team and played against Widnes for the Wolves in pre-season.

He went on to spend some time with North Wales Crusaders and has also featured for Bradford and Swinton this season, before eventually finding his back to Widnes in July.

The young prop now forms part of a team determined to reach the Championship play-offs, where most bookes like 1xbet azerbaycan have Wakefield as strong favourites. Trinity can secure the Championship League Leaders’ shield with a win over Halifax this weekend, although they may not need to if Toulouse are downed by Featherstone on Saturday night.

When he made his Vikings debut in the 24-20 win at Halifax, it was the fifth different club he had featured for in 2024, having also made a solitary appearance for Warrington in the under strength side that lost narrowly to Wigan the week before the Challenge Cup final.

Although relatively small in height, Green’s stocky stature has him winning upper body battles and driving forward with his legs in contact.

Green told the Widnes Rugby podcast: “It’s been hard, but I try and look at it in a positive way.

“I’m enjoying it. It’s a good set of lads, a good coaching staff and I’m learning a lot.

“I’m getting some valuable game time and it’s nice to get a bit of consistency.

“Being here for a bit in pre-season has helped me – it’s meant I’ve come back for these few games and it’s been easier as I knew the lads a bit.

“I already knew everyone so I could slot straight back in.”

Green has now made five successive appearances for Widnes, featuring in the wins over Bradford and Whitehaven, the longest run he’s had in any team during his short career.

Season-ending injuries for Danny Langtree and Nick Gregson, plus knocks to Callum Field, Rhodri Lloyd and Sam Wilde recently, have left Widnes short on forwards.

They are hopeful for a return to action for Lloyd and Wilde soon, while Martyn Reilly – yet to play for Widnes since signing in the off-season through injury – may play before the season’s out.

Two further knocks were sustained in last weekend’s defeat at Wakefield, Nathan Wilde forced off early on for assessment due to experiencing palpitations, and Ryan Lannon didn’t come out for the second half after failing a HIA following a knock in the first half.

Widnes welcome Sheffield to the DCBL Stadium this weekend, with the Eagles still managing without coach Mark Aston, suspended due to a club investigation.
